2014 Business Insights from the Pros
by Olivia Rose on December 31, 2013
With the New Year just one day away, we’ve been sourcing the web to curate this collection of business wisdom from the pro’s to help inspire us to kick off 2014 with a bang. What trends should we expect to see, and what are some practical tips to help my team succeed? Here’s what they have to say…
Silicon Valley entrepreneur, Eric Ries on start-up success: “Start-up success is not a consequence of good genes or being in the right place at the right time. Success can be engineered by following the right process, which means it can be learned, which means it can be taught.”
Shama Kabani, CEO and founder of The Zen Marketing Group writes that context and relevancy take center stage: “While content continues to be a crucial component in online marketing, context and relevancy will play a bigger role. Consumers are getting accustomed to getting what they want, when they want and how they want it. Information, when delivered at the right time, can be useful and appreciated.”
Stanford Graduate School of Business Professor Baba Shiv suggests: “Stimulate innovation at work by giving all team members an equal shot at pitching new ideas.”
Deborah Sweeney, CEO of mycorporation.com recommends updating your website: “In a consumer survey sponsored by GE Capital Retail Bank, 81 percent of respondents said that they researched online companies before making any major purchase. That means that a majority of your potential customers have looked your business up online before buying anything. Take a look at your website -- does it present an image of your business that you want 81 percent of your potential market to see? Hopefully it does, but if it is starting to look a bit obsolete, consider giving your site a facelift.”
Going mobile is vital according to Mashable: “By 2015, more U.S. Internet users will access the web through mobile devices than through PCs. On average, 15% of all searches on Google today are from a mobile device. How well are you catering to this mobile population? Make 2012 the year you optimize your search marketing, email marketing and website to focus on this growing mobile community.”
